Week beginning 23rd January

Please note that we will be completing phonic and reading checks next week so we may not have time to hear all of the children read. Thank you for your support with this. In English this week we have been reading the traditional tale The Three Little Pigs. The children have been acting out the story- being pigs, wolves, bricks, straw and sticks! We have read different versions of the story and talked about the similarities and differences. We have also talked about the beginning, middle and end of the story. The children then became illustrators and authors and retold the story of The Three Little Pigs. In maths this week we have been learning about capacity. We have been looking at containers which are full, nearly full, half full or empty, nearly empty and empty; estimating and measuring the capacity of different sized containers; reading scales in millilitres. Please remember that if you have visited any where in the United Kingdom we would love the children to bring in a photograph and share this with us so that we can add it to our map of the United Kingdom. Week beginning 9th January

Happy New Year to you all! We hope you all had a lovely break. This week in English we have been reading the story of Hansel and Gretel. We have been reading different versions of the story and talking about the similarities and differences and also comparing this to other traditional fairy tales. The children have created a story map to show the beginning, middle and end of the story and have acted out the story as a whole class. In maths we have been learning number bonds to 10- these are pairs of numbers which add up to 10 (for example 5+5=10, 2+8=10). There are lots of lovely games online to help the children to remember these. This half term we will be doing gymnastics in PE. We will be exploring different ways of moving, balancing and using simple apparatus. Our topic for this term is Off With Their Heads! A topic web will be coming home shortly. Dates for the diary: Library van Wednesday 18th Jan Chinese New Year lunch Thursday 26th Jan (please return your slips if you haven't done so already) Castle Museum trip Wednesday 8th Feb (children will have to wear uniform as normal and bring a packed lunch)
