We have all been very excited about the snow but please remember to send the children in appropriate clothes and take care!!

In english this week we read the story The Way Back Home by Oliver Jeffers.  You can listen to Brian Cox reading this story on the CBeebies website-

The children then created a planet for the alien in the story. The designed it, labelled it, painted it and even created facts abouts it! Next week we will be writing facts about real planets. As part of your home learning you could find out about the different planets in our solar system using books from the library, books at home or the internet.

This week we have set some 2do's on Purple Mash- you can find the log in for this on the front of your child's Home Learning Book.

In math this week we have been recapping writing and ordering numbers. As part of your home learning you could play games such as snakes and ladders or bingo to help the children become more confident at recognising numbers to 100. If they are confident at this already you could play games with two dice and encourage them to add the digits together.

Please remember to send in PE kits every Tuesday- especially those taking part in after school clubs.

Finally thank you to all those who were able to attend a parent teacher interview- we hope you find it useful and informative. Please remember that we are always here if you have any worries, questions or concerns so please pop in and speak to us or send an email to rellis37ru@nsix.org.uk. Our next open morning is on the last day of term from 9am-1130am Wednesday 28th March.

19th February 2018

Welcome back to the second half of Spring term! We hope you all had a relaxing half term- we've heard about lots of the exciting things you all got up to.

In Math this week we have been recapping on halves (sharing into two equal parts/amounts) and quartering (sharing into four equals parts/amounts) shapes and have begun to halve and quarter groups of objects. The children used plates which had been split up into halves and quarters and worked in partners to share objects equally before recording in their maths books.

As part of your home learning you could use playdoh to make shapes and cut them into different fractions; share sweets and food equally into halves and quarters; have a teddy bears picnic and share the food between two or four bears!

In English we have been reading the traditional tale Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children received a letter from the Three Bears to tell them how upset they were with Goldilocks  so the children all had a go at writing a reply. We were really impressed with their ideas on how to cheer up baby bear and ways of saying sorry.

We are still carrying on with dance on a Tuesday however the theme for this half term is animals.

In topic we are continuing our space theme!

Next week we will be doing a quick phonics check to see how the children are getting on so we may not be able to read with each child- please remember you are welcome to come in and change their books before and after school.

5th February 2018

This week is International Week and the children are learning all about Australia. As part of your home learning ask your children to share with you what they have learnt about Australia. Did you know that Australia is both a country and a continent?

This week the children will be taking part in lots of different activities including making traditional Australian Anzac biscuits (where we can revisit our weighing skills from last week!), exploring famous landmarks in Australia, comparing the weather in Australia to the UK, learning about Australian animals, creating Aboriginal art and writing postcards to share all of the information they have learnt. What a busy week! We will try to add some photographs later in the week so you can see what the children have been doing. As part of your home learning you could explore Google Earth and compare the United Kingdom with Australia.

The children made traditional Anzac biscuits.

Friday is the last day of this half term - we feel like it's gone really quickly!! We have some exciting things planned for after half term and we would like your children to relax over the break but please remember to keep reading! You could read your school book, get books from the library, read your sharing book together, read tricky words, read recipes or instructions- the possibilities are endless! Please remember that your children are allowed to change both their school reading books and sharing books as often as they like. The library is open both before and after school.

After half term we will continue with dance on a Tuesday so please remember to send in a PE kit- especially those who are doing after school clubs. No shoes are needed but those with long hair need to be tied back and earrings need to be covered with tape.

We look forward to seeing toy back at school on Monday 19th February and don't forget there is a new menu starting for hot dinners.

If you haven't already please don't forget to sign up for parent teacher interviews which take place the first week back after half term.
